The art of pleasure:   passion in Molière's comedy.
A brief introduction to my PhD thesis, which examines the relationship between passionate emotion and laughter, considering in particular the plays of the seventeenth-century French comic actor and writer, Molière.

Performing emotion and the commedia dell'arte.
Delivered at a conference on performance organised by Victoria Best and me at Jesus College, Cambridge, this article considers how popular ideas of emotion in the Renaissance underpinned the acting styles of Italianate comedy.
